Sketch of the Day: 3-28-2008

Thanks to to Scott Johnson at MyExtraLife.com. He has been doing a Sketch a Day since the first of the year. So naturally, I thought I would jump on his awesome idea and steal it for myself.

I used to be a huge wanna be cartoonist when I had the time back in high school, but as work life set in…that never came around. Not that it is anyone’s fault but my own for not perusing a dream, I feel like it is time to do something with the creative side of me that is lurking around. I think life itself is kicking me in the ass to do something too (see this post).

Besides, I have this new Wacom tablet I am trying to get used to…and there is only one way to learn…and that is banging my head against the wall trying to use it! (this is how I get most information into my brain)

My Plan is to do 365 of these things, so come back early and often! See you tomorrow! You can subscribe here!

Learn to Blog and Podcast at Myrtle Beach, SC

If you live in the South and are interested in Blogging, Podcasting, Video, or Social Networking, on April 19th in Myrtle Beach, SC is the place you want to be. With a focus on Networking and learning it looks like there will be something for everyone.

I have enjoyed the Podcast and New Media Expo (now: New Media Expo) in the past in part because it is a chance to meet people and well…network. Even though podcasting and blogging have connected me to people in ways that hasn’t been possible before, there is something to be said about meeting and learning from people face to face. This opportunity looks like another chance to do just that.

Usually all the conferences that deal with this kind of thing are not in my backyard but across the country. Not now! For me it is a 2.5 hour drive. This all looks very exciting, and fun…so visit the link below to find out the details on attending!

I’ll look for you there!

CREATE: Carolina Regional Exposition of Art, Technology & Education

Saturday April 19th at the historic train depot in downtown Myrtle Beach, the CREATE South conference will occur. It is a meeting for those interested in blogging, podcasting, video, social networking or any other form of self-expression. Serving the residents of the Grand Strand and beyond, it is a venue to bring together like minded people to network, to teach and to learn. If you would like to get involved in these arenas but don’t know how to start, this is the place to be. With introductory presentations and hands-on detailed demos, the beginners and the experts alike will have plenty to learn.

A Hole in My Art

Harriet Bucy was one of my old art teachers in School. Sure I use to goof off in class some (drawing cartoons) and I remember getting under her skin a few times, however I did like her a lot. I have seen her around town from time to time since having her in school and she was always very kind.

Not that we were ever close or communicated a lot after school, but one thing that I do remember is that when I did see her she would ask if I was doing anything with my art. Of course I would have to respond, “no, but…”. However, it is Her asking is what sticks out in my mind and I am reminded sometimes it is the little things that people do that can make a huge impact on your life.

So perhaps this is a reminder to me that life is too short, and I should “do something with my art” today.

Thanks Harriet!
