Gimp Tip

I hadn’t noticed this before…You can have Dynamic Keyboard shortcuts in Gimp. Meaning that when you are using the program you can just assign a keyboard shortcut to a function on the fly with out going to prefrences.

Click on File->Prefrences->Interface
Turn on “Use Dynamic Keyboard Shortcuts”

Now, when you are editing an image and select something from the menu. Highlight the menu selection with the mouse and while it is highlighted hit a key stroke combo.

New Star Trek? Why Not?

If you haven’t heard, Star Trek the original series is getting a face lift with new digital effects like Star Wars got. I for one think it will be interesting to see what the “new” one looks like.

Hey look on the bright side. It is on TV, Cost Nothing, and George
Lucas isn’t getting money from it.

It starts on Saturday the 16th…check your listings.

I missed the Shuttle

I finally had a chance to watch the shuttle launch! I was in Florida and it was scheduled, and this morning I was at a park in Titusville, FL with a view at 10:45a. I sat in my beach chair and no less than 5 minutes later, I heard on someone’s radio that it was scrubbed.

Oh well, maybe next time.

You’ve got Microsoft!

The Windows Vista team responded to a recent Robert Scoble blog entry talking about a non-customizable “Signature” sound for the logon screen. They said here…

The idea behind this is that it will help the PC user know that their sound is working correctly, its current volume setting, and that the PC is prepped for music and video playback upon log-in.

That is the biggest BS marketing line if I have ever heard one. It isn’t MICROSOFT’s COMPUTER, it is mine and I shall customize it as I see fit! Not Redmond.

What they DO want is for everyone to hear it when you and others log in so that Microsoft will get market recognition. Just like that Nextel sound when you use the Instant Walkie Talkie, you know those beeps. Everyone used it, and whenever you hear it, you know it is Nextel.

Googling for Books

I see that Google now offers downloads of some out of copywrite book on its Book Search. I think that this is great and all but is this really better that Geutenberg project. The 2 PDFs that I download from Google were literal scans to PDF, pictures of the book itself. Not very flexible to put on a book Reader.

SurgeTV, what tha…

This is the stupidest thing I think that I have read in a long time. First G4 takes over TechTV to become G4TechTV then just G4 again…and now we have the SciFi Channel changing the name to what sounds like a Cola? AND adding wrestling? What the Heck is going on!

Maybe I am just getting older…I don’t know.

SCI FI Channel to Change Name to SurgeTV
Effective
November 1, 2006, the SCI FI Channel will change their name to SurgeTV,
to reflect the changing demographic thrust of the successful
long-running cable channel. In addition, deals are currently working
out to bring back ECW for a three-times a week run in prime time, as
well as reruns (Pre-WWE) of professional wrestling events.

Update: Ok, I am an idiot…Looks like I was taken in. Apparently this is a prank…I went looking for an official notice on their site but didn’t find one, and now I see others questioning it. Guess I should have looked before I pulled the trigger on my blog! Bleh.

I find THIS Offensive!

This is just over the line! Turner Broadcasting, the people that brought you colorized movies from Black and Whites…now takes it upon themselves to remove smoking from all of the old Hanna-Barbera Cartoons. Now, I do understand that smoking isn’t good for you or me…but to go a step further and erase it from history? Who the *&%@ do they think they are!

You know…I think I remember a few times that Tom, Jerry, and even Fred or Barney got sloshed. Perhaps they should take that out too…Now that I think about it…Anvils and boards to the head are ok to leave in?

I can’t stand this kind of censorship when someone thinks they know better than me. I have some advice for you…Talk to your Kids, don’t shelter them by chopping up old cartoons. Yea, that will save the world.

Pfft. Idiots. Kiss my P.C. Free butt.

AOL News
LONDON (Aug. 21) – Turner Broadcasting is scouring more
than 1,500 classic Hanna-Barbera cartoons, including old
favorites Tom and Jerry, The Flintstones and Scooby-Doo, to
edit out scenes that glamorize smoking.

Makes me want to smoke in protest!
