I thought of myself as a Star Wars Fan, but my status may be dwindling as we speak. These are true fans..no, actually I would say “Star Wars Freaks” (And I mean that as a complement).
At the recent Star Wars Celebration III the entire 501st Legion got together for a group picture.
I have to think that this has to be a logistical nightmare. One to get everyone together… and Two is that you have to handle the people that all want to be Darth Vader. I wonder this because remember when we were all kids and everyone wanted to be Indiana Jones or everyone wanted to be Luke…
Cool picture… even if there are about 15 Darth Vaders in it.

Interesting… I like Joss Whedon’s work on Firefly, so this ought to be interesting…A Wonder Woman Movie? Are we ready for that?
Silver Pictures, producer of the revolutionary, $3 billion-grossing “Matrix” franchise, has signed Joss Whedon, creator of the phenomenally popular Buffy the Vampire Slayer television series, to write and direct the feature film action adventure Wonder Woman based on the DC Comics character. The announcement was made today by Jeff Robinov, President of Production, Warner Bros. Pictures.

A friend of mine, Patrick Mikulak, pointed me to this little bit of information.
Apparently the people over at Scifi Channel in charge of Battlestar Galactica are creating a podcast to accompany the show. It looks like you will get director type commentary with the show.
This is very cool, and only makes me like the show more. I already look forward to it each Friday. Now I will be even more interested to see what the Podcast has to say.
I think that it is evident by the effort that is put into the show, the blog they already provide, and now the podcast that they really want to reach out to the audience and make a good show. Very cool.
I think that Paramount should be taking notes.
This one is funnier that the first. It is designed as an entry in the Hitchhikers Guide.
If this is any indication of how the movie is going to turn out, I think that it ought to be hilarious. However, It wouldn’t be the first time that I was psyc’d for a movie then let down.

I just filled out a survey over at Starwars.com. The survey was to see what services and or things they could throw at me to make me interested in being a Hyperspace subscriber. I assume that they are doing this because Star Wars III is coming out soon and I am sure they are looking to see what could keep or build their subscriber base.
Some of the things they had suggestions for were Original Stories, Insider information on Indy IV and the Star Wars TV projects, and discounts at their startwarsshop.com. I was looking at their shop, after the survey because I realized I hadn’t seen it in a while, and I was surprised and not so at the same time at what I found. I will be damned if I am gonna pay $109.99 for a freaking Darth Vader 77 football jersey. I mean even the proverbial fan in his parents basement would shudder. I think that the only thing that I could see purchasing is either the Yoda mouse pad or some pens. Even the Pez dispensers are $30.00 + bucks. It is expensive. Who can afford to collect unless you are the one who got out early during the Dot Com era.
Now, I have been a fan since day one, and I remember the day I first saw Star Wars and it was good. I looked forward to each new movie with much excitement, but once Phantom Menace came out I started to get that I am being milked feeling. First it is, go see the movie, buy it on VHS, oh guess what the DVD is out. Then not only is the DVD out, but then there is the Special Edition and to follow that up the Special Directors Golden Ram Rod Uncut Edition is out. Then, Hey it is the Special Directors Golden Ram Rod Uncut Collectors set with never before seen extras! And you know that this goes on with every good movie out there, and it sucks. It sucks because they know you are gonna get it.
I have a new appreciation for what I put my parents through. I think back at all the Star Wars stuff that I got then. Figures, ships, and trading cards. I was a certified Star Wars freak (With others), but I do have a suggestion to keep me a fan. Make a good Star Wars film for Episode III that will be worth my $8 ~ 9 dollars. That is all I want.
(Ok, To be fair, I did sorta like Attack of the Cones)
I have been a Douglas Adams fan for what seems like forever. I originally got hooked on Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy by watching that old PBS TV version. I read the books, the entire trilogy, and have been anticipating this movie for quite some time.
As campy as HHGG was on PBS it was great fun to watch, even if you hadn’t read the books. It originally aired on BBC and I think that PBS recut it and aired it in 1981. At first I didn’t quite know what to make of it, then I got hooked and couldn’t wait for the next episode. The books then made it all the better (as in enhanced it not reducing the pain).
Of course don’t forget Infocom? In case you don’t know Infocom was a company made on creating text based adventure games. Zork I, II, III, et al and of course The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. I played that till I was blue in the fingers (typing of course). It was frustrating at times, especially trying to get the babel fish. You had to put a bag of mail on the floor, stand on one foot , and put your robe in front of an opening on the conveyor belt…ok, I made some of that up, but it was a pain to get that thing…
Anyway, I have sketches at home from that time and you can definitely see HHGG influence. I will admit that I carried a towel (click for cultural significance) in the back of my 78 Honda Civic for quite a while, and yes it did come in handy. I slept in my car once and used it then, I changed the oil and used it then, my windows fogged up I again used it then too, and that is where I will stop with that. You can plainly see the immediate benefit.
